Your Better Nebraska
Next weekend, leaders of Nebraska’s LGBT community will gather to start setting the agenda for October’s Inspiring Community conference. The 49Voices campaign and the conference has a singular goal: make Nebraska a better place for LGBT people. So this begs the question: what would this Nebraska look like to you?
Last fall, I asked you to say what your priorities were. The feedback was incredible. You were concerned about discrimination, safety and the ability of all Nebraskans to care for their families. So, how would you know we have accomplished that? What would your job, your family, your faith community, your social life be like? What would schools be like? What would your neighborhood be like?
Share the Nebraska that you want to live in below, and then visit the Take Action page for a way you can get closer to this Nebraska right now!

In a better Nebraska…
Schools would be safe for all students.
Same-sex couples would feel comfortable being “out” in public…not afraid to hold hands or show affection.
Our relationships would be recognized by our government & sate employees in same-sex relationships would have access to equitable benefits.
Schools would offer accurate, inclusive, and comprehensive sex education.
Faith communities would pull together to advocate for love and acceptance for LGBT people.
An ENDA law and marriage equality are top of my list. I’m hopeful that we’ll see ENDA nationwide.
Additionally, making our state safer for GLBT kids and adults. We do that through education and advocacy. How we organize/mobilize to have a consistent message and learn from each other is key. I’m anxious to hear ideas and talk about how we work together as Nebraskans to get that done.
I look forward to seeing everyone in Hastings!
Nebraska would cease to be seen as a backwater b/c of its attitudes about GLBT persons, among other things. More companies would offer partner benefits, and it would be seen as the norm. Every school would have a GSA. All employers would have non-discrimination policies that include sexual orientation and gender expression, and would have employee trainings about what that means. And the backward constitutional amendment about marriage would be repealed.
